Gout

What is Gout?

Gout is a painful form of arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints, leading to sudden, severe pain, swelling, and redness. It most commonly affects the big toe, but it can also occur in the ankles, knees, fingers, or wrists.

Causes of Gout:

🔺 High Uric Acid Levels (Hyperuricemia) – The body either produces too much uric acid or cannot get rid of it properly.
🥩 Diet – Red meat, seafood, and alcohol increase uric acid.
🍷 Alcohol & Sugary Drinks – Beer, wine, and sodas raise the risk.
📉 Kidney Issues – Poor kidney function leads to uric acid buildup.
⚖️ Obesity – Extra weight increases uric acid production.
🧬 Genetics – Family history of gout increases the likelihood.
💊 Certain Medications – Diuretics (water pills) and aspirin can trigger gout.
