Dandruff
What is Dandruff?
Dandruff is a common scalp condition that causes flaking of the skin along with itching and irritation. It occurs when the scalp’s natural oil balance is disrupted, leading to the excessive shedding of dead skin cells.
Causes of Dandruff:
- Dry Skin – One of the most common causes; flakes are usually small and dry.
- Oily Scalp (Seborrheic Dermatitis) – Excess oil leads to greasy, yellowish flakes and redness.
- Fungal Infection (Malassezia) – A yeast-like fungus that feeds on scalp oils, causing irritation and flaking.
- Product Buildup – Overuse of hair products can cause residue and irritation.
- Skin Conditions – Conditions like psoriasis, eczema, or contact dermatitis can trigger dandruff.
- Poor Hygiene – Not washing hair regularly can allow oil and dead skin to accumulate.
- Diet & Stress – Lack of nutrients (zinc, B vitamins) and high stress can worsen dandruff.
Symptoms of Dandruff:
✔ White or yellow flakes on the scalp and shoulders
✔ Itchy scalp
✔ Dryness or greasiness on the scalp
✔ Redness or irritation (in severe cases)
