What is ADHD?
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects a person’s ability to focus, control impulses, and regulate energy levels. It commonly starts in childhood and may continue into adulthood.
Types of ADHD:
1️⃣ Predominantly Inattentive Type – Trouble focusing, forgetfulness, easily distracted.
2️⃣ Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type – Excessive energy, restlessness, impulsive actions.
3️⃣ Combined Type – A mix of both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity.
Symptoms of ADHD:
🔹 Inattention (Difficulty Focusing)
❌ Easily distracted by noises or surroundings.
📚 Trouble following instructions or finishing tasks.
🧠 Frequently forgets daily activities or loses things.
🗣 Difficulty listening when spoken to directly.
🔹 Hyperactivity (Excessive Energy & Movement)
🏃 Always moving, fidgeting, or tapping hands/feet.
🛑 Trouble sitting still, especially in quiet situations.
🗣 Talks excessively, blurts out answers before questions are finished.
😵 Difficulty waiting for their turn (e.g., in conversations or games).
🔹 Impulsivity (Acting Without Thinking)
⚡ Interrupts others frequently in conversations.
🛒 Makes hasty decisions without considering consequences.
😡 Struggles with self-control, may have emotional outbursts.
Causes & Risk Factors of ADHD:
🧬 Genetics – Often runs in families.
🧠 Brain Structure Differences – Imbalance in neurotransmitters like dopamine.
🤰 Prenatal Factors – Smoking, alcohol, or drug exposure in pregnancy.
🚼 Premature Birth or Low Birth Weight – Increases risk.
🍭 Diet & Environment – Food additives, toxins, and stress may contribute.
