What are Adenoids?

Adenoids are small, soft tissue masses located at the back of the nasal cavity, above the tonsils. They help fight infections in early childhood but usually shrink after age 5 and may disappear by teenage years. When enlarged, they can cause breathing difficulties, nasal congestion, and ear infections.
